Sail Past at BMYS Sunday 2nd October 2022

On Sunday 2nd October our 2022 Sail Past was held before a very big crowd and included the largest fleet of boats seen in recent years. The day was a huge success with members and guests enjoying a beautiful morning and the festivities of the Sail Past.

Over 40 boats took to the water to assemble near the Club jetty. The theme for the day was the BMYS Club colours Red, White and Blue. It was amazing to see the boats decorated in these colours and the costumes of the boat crews.

Local singer/guitarist Jenny Ellison performed the Australian National Anthem to the assembled Members & Guests on the jetty & surrounds. Special guests included Mayor of Bayside Cr Alex del Porto and the Commodore of Sandringham Yacht Club Sue Bowes.

Also present were many BMYS Members, past Commodores & Life Members. BMYS Chaplain Graham Disney OAM formally blessed the assembled fleet before our Commodore Michael Busuttil announced the season open, accompanied by the firing of the cannon!!

The boating fleet led by Past Commodore Les Sabo did a lap of Beaumaris Bay and sailed past the jetty being cheered on by the assembled crowd.

After retrieving the boats a capacity crowd of 180 members and guests assembled upstairs for lunch at 12.30pm. Boating Director Tony Huxham introduced our guests before Commodore Michael Busuttil gave a short speech.

We then all enjoyed some great music by The 4Peace Band, brilliantly set against the backdrop of our beautiful Bay. A delicious 3 course meal was provided by Armin & his team.
