Sail Past at BMYS Sunday 1st October 2023

On Sunday 1st October our 2023 Sail Past was held before a very big crowd and included a large fleet of boats and crews. The day was a huge success with members and guests enjoying a beautiful morning and the festivities of the Sail Past.

Over 20 boats assembled in the Club grounds. The theme for the day was the “Favourite Football Team (All Codes)”. It was amazing to see the boats decorated in these colours and the costumes of the boat crews. There looked to be great support for Collingwood after their Grand Final win!

The boating fleet led by Past Commodore Brian McNaughton did a parade lap of the BMYS grounds being cheered on by the assembled crowd. A strong westerly breeze prevented the boats from being on the water.

Local singer/guitarist Jenny Ellison performed the Australian National Anthem to the assembled Members & Guests on the clubhouse balcony. Special guests included Mayor of Bayside Cr Hanna El Mouallem, Bayside Councillor Laurance Evans and the Commodore of Sandringham Yacht Club Sue Bowes.

Also present were many BMYS Members, Past Commodores & Life Members. BMYS Chaplain Daryl Clark formally blessed the assembled fleet before our Commodore Michael Busuttil announced the season open, accompanied by the firing of the cannon!!

After the festivities a large crowd of 147 members and guests assembled upstairs for lunch at 12.30pm. Commodore Michael Busuttil introduced our guests and gave a short address.

We then all enjoyed some great music by The 4Peace Band, brilliantly set against the backdrop of our beautiful Bay. A delicious 3-course meal was provided by Armin & his team.
