Sail Past at BMYS Saturday 11th December
On Saturday 11 December our 2021 Sail Past was held, a little later than usual, but for the first time since 2019.
15 boat crews braved the sunny but choppy conditions to be on the water, and dressed their boats appropriately for our ‚ÄòBeach Party‚' theme.
Local singer/guitarist Jenny Ellison performed the Australian National Anthem to the assembled Members & Guests on the jetty & surrounds, which included Tim Wilson MP, Brad Rowswell MP (& daughter Abigail), Mayor of Bayside Cr Alex del Porto & his wife Donna, Cr Laurie Evans, and Vice Commodore of Black Rock Yacht Club Sue Jones with daughter Georgia.
Also present were many BMYS Members, past Commodores & Life Members. BMYS Chaplain Graham Disney OAM formally blessed the assembled fleet before our Commodore Les Sabo announced the season open, accompanied by the firing of the cannon!!
The boating fleet was led on-water in the customary laps of nearby Beaumaris Bay by 2020 JR Kerr Champion Anthony Huxham, and was accompanied by plenty of cheering as they passed the jetty each time.
During a short break to allow the boats to return & retrieve, our guests were again entertained downstairs by Jenny Ellison before the whole group moved upstairs for lunch around 12:30pm.
Boating Director Ian Whiteside introduced our guests before Commodore Les again addressed the gathered, including an Acknowledgment of Country and a short speech.
We then all enjoyed a number of fantastic sets by The 4Peace Band, brilliantly set against the backdrop of our beautiful Bay, and a delicious meal provided by Armin & his team.

A number of other prizes were also awarded for participation, including bottles of wine & canvas prints.
It‚'s safe to say that a great day was enjoyed by everyone present.
